The Brasfield & Gorrie construction firm hosted a Topping Out ceremony on Friday, September 16, 2018 to celebrate the progress made on the Cousins Center for Science and Innovation. Topping out, or topping off, ceremonies are held to commemorate the placement of the last support atop a structure.
Preceding the event, 47,867 total labor hours had gone into the project. That’s the equivalent of almost 6,000 8-hour shifts, or about five and a half years of continuous work. Crews have been putting in extended hours and days of work to meet the deadlines of the building. Classes are scheduled to be moved back into the building for the spring 2019 semester while the final construction is completed. The Cousins Center will officially open in fall 2019.
The celebration included a catered lunch, giveaways and T-shirts for the crews.
