Track Resurfacing Rejuvenates Facility

Our new track surface has gotten a lot of use in the past 2 1/2 years; so much that it was in need of resurfacing.

The track was closed for five days to allow the work to be done and the track material to cure, but athletic teams are now back to practice as usual!

New Traer Welcomes New Students

All of our residence halls received updates this summer, but the most comprehensive improvements were completed in Traer, the building many of our first year students call home.

Some of the most noticeable changes to Traer were in the courtyard, where 60 bushes were replaced with Bermuda sod, four Crepe Myrtle trees and 20 new Adirondack chairs.

New steps were installed in all three stairwells and then painted. The railings throughout the hall were also painted.

All rooms and lounges got a fresh coat of paint and two of the lounges received new tile floors and blinds. Inside the suites, 35 received new carpet and vinyl flooring. Ceiling tiles, window blinds, light fixtures and suite doors were replaced as needed throughout the hall. Kick plates were installed on all suite doors.

Gables: An Aerial View and Sneak Peek Inside a Top-Level Unit!

This view shows the proximity of the Gables complex to our athletic facilities. Residential units in the first building will have great views of Oglethorpe baseball games, and those in the second building will overlook our track and field.     The parking garage is completed for each section first, with the residential building built around it, masking it from exterior view. From this angle you can see our campus buildings in the background! The first section, housing about 60 units, is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in November.

Hearst Great Hall & Admission Lobby Get a Makeover

Two of the most frequently visited areas of campus recently received some upgrades.

In the Admission lobby in Lupton Hall, the “front entrance” to our campus, the furniture was replaced, the walls painted, and artwork and decor were updated. A TV was installed on the wall in the waiting area that continuously shows a slideshow of campus photos, student testimonials and other messaging to give campus visitors an overview of what Oglethorpe has to offer.

The Great Hall of Hearst, a favorite study spot and gathering place for students, is now even more welcoming with new furniture, including leather couches and chairs, a long table for group meetings and new light fixtures. The old carpet was removed to reveal beautiful hardwood floors, which have been refinished. The fireplace bench was reupholstered and the interior and exterior walls and bronze details on the entrance doors were repainted. The grandfather clock and piano were both restored to working order.
